Red Flag Canal

The Red Ensign channel or Hongqi Canal (红旗渠Chinese, Pinyin Hongqi qu, W.-G. Hung -ch'i ch'ü, English Red Flag Canal ) in the field of Chinese city Linzhou林 州市in " triangle "of the provinces of Henan, Shanxi and Hebei was built by the end of 1959 to 1969 to ( Linxian林 县) (now Linzhou ) to irrigate the dry area of the circle at the foot of the Taihang Shan Lin west of Anyang. The main channel is about 71 km long. The sewer network is one with side channels and irrigation canals in total more than 2000 km. He is one of the water works, which were planned and started during the Great Leap Forward. Allegedly was in the week of December 12, 1959 more than masses of earth moved during the entire construction of the Panama Canal.

The channel is available since 2006 on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China ( 6-990 ).
