Red Hook is a village in Dutchess County, New York, United States. In the United States Census 2000, the city had 1805 inhabitants. It belongs to the Metropolitan Statistical Area Poughkeepsie - Newburgh - Middletown. The name is derived from the Dutch expression Roode Hoeck, which as much as red Peninsula means and alludes to the bright red color in the foliage in the fall.

History
