Red Lake (Ontario)

Red Lake [ ˌ ɹɛd leɪ̯k ] is a municipality in the northwest of the Canadian province of Ontario in Kenora District.

Red Lake has 8500 inhabitants and is situated on the shores of Red Lake near the Gullrock Lake. The village has a museum and is located near the provincial parks Woodland Caribou Provincial Park and Pakwash Provincial Park. At the site there is the Red Lake mine of Goldcorp, the richest gold mine in the world.

Red Lake is also known as the Norseman Capital of the World (Norseman Capital of the World).

History

1926, when it was discovered in the Red Lake Gold, the city grew rapidly. The Howey Bay airport at this time was the busiest airport in the world.

Climate

The first snow usually falls in late October and melts again in March. During this time the temperature may fall to -35 degrees Celsius.
