Redtoothed triggerfish

Redfang triggerfish ( Odonus niger)

The Redfang triggerfish ( Odonus niger) or Blue Triggerfish is a species of the family triggerfish ( Balistidae ).

He lives in the Red Sea and the Indo-Pacific from the coast of East Africa to South Africa, Japan, New Caledonia to the Marquesas and the Society Islands in depths of 3 to 35 meters. The fish live in loose flocks on coral reefs in lagoons and on outer reefs. They are 50 inches long.

For reproduction to form harem groups of one male and up to ten females, all spawn together. The males guard the spawning until hatching of fish larvae.

Redfang triggerfish feed on zooplankton, they usually in the open water, several meters above the ground, capture. They also feed on benthic invertebrates, such as sponges, mollusks and crustaceans.

Aquarium maintenance

Redfang triggerfish are much more peaceful than other species from their family. They can therefore be quite kept in a very large saltwater aquarium. They also do not go to hard and soft corals.
