Reed Zuehlke

Johann Reed Zuehlke ( born October 26, 1960 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin ) is a former American ski jumper.

Career

His first international competition contested Zuehlke at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. He reached the 45th place on the large hill.

After the Winter Games he was included in the squad for the recently launched World Cup Ski Jumping. Zuehlke played his first World Cup competition on 27 February 1980 in St. Moritz and immediately reached the 6th place. Also in Gstaad, he reached 5th place finishing in the top ten. This 5th place should also remain his best finish at a World Cup competition for five years. The following two years were with mixed results. Rarely he could jump from jumping into the points. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1982 in Oslo, he reached the 54th place on the normal hill and 40th in the large hill. In the team competition, he reached the sixth and last place together with Nils Stolzlechner, Jeff Hastings and John Broman.

In January 1983 he was able to jump on his home hill in Lake Placid in sixth place after a long dry spell in the top ten. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1984 Zuehlke was again in the squad for the U.S. and jumped on the large hill on the 29th place.

On January 8, 1985 denied Zuehlke his last jump in the ski jumping World Cup. In Cortina d'Ampezzo he reached this place with 4 the highest single finish of his career. He ended his ski jumping career with 34th place in the overall World Cup standings.
