Reelin

  • OMIM: 600 514
  • MGI: 103022

Reelin is a glycoprotein, which is involved in the mammalian CNS in the differentiation and migration of neurons.

A crucially important factor is, for example, for the maturation of the hippocampus, in which the sharp stratification of different neurons is essential for its functionality. There, it is made of Cajal Rezius cells. Two receptors for Reelin been known that you previously only known from the lipid metabolism. One is the Apolipoproteinrezeptor 2 ( ApoER2 ) and the other is the receptor of very low density lipoproteins ( VLDL ). About differences between the two you can still know very little.

In Reelin knock-out mice ( reeler mice), although viable, is seen in hippocampal slices and neocortex clearly the unguided cell migration that can be deflected partially in co-cultures with Reelin -producing hippocampi.
