Refuge Victor-Emmanuel II

The Rifugio Vittorio Emanuele II is a refuge of the Turin section of the Club Alpino Italiano ( CAI) and is located in the Graian at an altitude of 2732 m slm. Namesake is the Italian king Vittorio Emanuele II, who was born in 1820 in Turin. He obtained in 1854 the area now Gran Paradiso National Park as a hunting ground and guarded it strictly, which he contributed to the protection of the ibex.

The cottage is located on the east side of the Val Savarenche on the Moncorvé Plateau on a small lake. Your design is reminiscent of an " airship hangar ," a half- ton with aluminum roof. This cabin and the slightly further north Rifugio Chabod are the most commonly used bases for an ascent of Gran Paradiso.

History

The original cottage was built in 1884 and altered in 1910 and extended. 1954 was built a few below a new hut, this was again extended in 1963 and rebuilt. The old cabin is also still serves as winter quarters and relief camps. New and old hut have the same name and are both Turin section of the CAI.

Increase

The increase to the hut begins in Pont, a district of Valsavarenche, at the end of the road through the Val Savarenche. First, it goes further into the valley to the south. Soon after a coming down in waterfalls brook, the trail leads east up the slope, initially through a sparse forest, later on meadows and moraine. Are to be estimated 2 ½ hours for any technical difficulties having increase of Pont.
