The train station is next to the Prüfening Regensburg Regensburg Main Station and the breakpoint Regensburg Burgweinting one used by three passenger stations of the city of Regensburg. It is located in the west of the city on the Prüfening Castle Street. Outside the station, the railway line Ingolstadt is divided into the route Nuremberg Regensburg and the Danube Valley Railway towards Central Station and on to Ulm. These crosses under the road to Nuremberg shortly after the Prüfening station.

Seen train Operationally, the colloquially as " station " designated plant is divided into the station part (Bft ) NRPF ( direction Undorf / Nuremberg ) and the breakpoint NRPH ( direction Sinzing ).

Regensburg Prüfening consists of three platforms. In the south, the platforms 1 and 2 towards Nuremberg and about 100 m north of the platform are 3 towards Ingolstadt. At the station on schedule holds only regional traffic, it is classified in category 4 of the DB. It is through the direct northerly stop " racecourse " Connecting to the Regensburg city bus network.
