Regionalliga Nord

The Football Regionalliga Nord is a league in German football. She is one of five regional leagues, which currently form the fourth- highest league in the league system in Germany. It will be held from the North German Football Association ( NFA ). The Master takes part in a promotion round to the 3rd league. There are three relegated and three promoted from the top leagues, where the master of the Niedersachsenliga ascends directly. Furthermore, two climbers in a promotion round to participate in the other three masters (Hamburg, Schleswig -Holstein, Bremen) and the runner-up from Lower Saxony determined.

Seasons of the Regionalliga Nord

Second-class Regional in five seasons (1963-1974)

From 1963/64 bis of 1973/74 was the Regionalliga Nord, together with the regional leagues West, Berlin, West and South, a total of five second- highest leagues under the Bundesliga. It included at that time the federal states of Lower Saxony, Bremen, Hamburg and Schleswig -Holstein and the former Oberliga Nord from 1947 to 1963. The champions and runners took part in the promotion round to the Bundesliga.

Third-class Regional in four seasons (1994-2000)

After the introduction of the 2nd Bundesliga for the season 1974/75, the Regionalliga Nord was abolished in this form. 20 years later, for the 1994/95 season it was introduced as third-class together with the Regional Season northeast, west / southwest and south again. Here, too, it included the same states as of 1963/64-1973/74. The master rose in the season 1994/95 directly, the runner-up played for the German amateur championship. As of 1996, the Master was playing in a relegation match against the champions from the North East for the promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. The loser of this game took part in the German Amateur Championship. In the 1997/98 season was about this contest also the chance to climb. From 1998/99-1999/2000 the losers of the play-offs took part in the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga.

Third-class Regional in two seasons (2000-2008)

For the 2000/01 season, the four regional leagues were combined into two seasons (Regionalliga North and South). In addition to previous states the area included now also re-established states of the former GDR ( Mecklenburg -Vorpommern, Brandenburg, Berlin, Saxony, Saxony- Anhalt and Thuringia). However, it happened that clubs who ought to have in the north must start in the Regionalliga Süd played ( FC Rot -Weiß Erfurt 2000/01-2003/04, FC Carl Zeiss Jena in 2002/ 03 and Sportfreunde Siegen 2000/01-2004 / 05 and 2006/07-2007/08, both Erfurt and Jena but also played in the Regionalliga Nord) later. It increased each champion and runner- up in the second league.

Regional fourth-rate in three seasons (2008-2012)

With the introduction of the 3rd Liga Regionalliga from the 2008/09 season was in three seasons played (Regionalliga North, West and South). She was now only viertklassig. From the catchment area of ​​the Regionalliga Nord Nordrhein-Westfalen was thereby deleted. The master of the Regionalliga Nord went straight on into the 3rd league. However, in the 2008/ 09 season the club BV Cloppenburg was incorporated into the West Season, even though he should have played in the north. The reason was because in all three seasons, only 18 per clubs should play.

Regional fourth-rate in five leagues (since 2012)

With the reform of 2012, the Regional Regional was increased to five squadrons (Regionalliga North, East, West, South West and Bavaria ). The master of the Regionalliga Nord now no longer increases directly, but must qualify ( and the runner-up of the Regionalliga Southwest ) for the 3rd league from now on a promotion round with the other masters of the regional leagues.
