RemetskÃ© HÃ¡mre

Remetské Hamre ( until 1948 slovak " Remetské HAMRY "; Hungarian Remetevasgyár ) is a city and a municipality in the extreme eastern Slovakia, with a population of 621 (as at 31 December 2011).

Geography

The municipality is situated on the southern slopes of the Vihorlatgebirges on the right bank of the Okna, 13 kilometers from Sobrance and 27 kilometers from Michalovce. About 10 kilometers north of the village lies in Vihorlatgebirge the sea Sea Eye ( " Seeauge ").

History

The original place called Hamre was born in the late 18th century in the district Potašňa ( about 5 km further upstream ) than a typical working class neighborhood in hammer mills, on the estate of the noble family Sztáray. After the establishment of an iron factory in the 19th century, the settlement moved to its present site. 1828, she had 68 houses and 467 inhabitants. The iron ore was mined at Mount Mochnatý vrch and the clay in the Sea Eye lake. The iron ore obtained was processed in three hammer works. The biggest boost to the city after 1864, when the entrepreneur Ignatius large a rolling mill, a foundry and later a factory for the manufacture of agricultural tools. However, in the early 20th century it went with the whole company down until it completely burned down in 1922. After the closure of the company they founded a saw that today is partly in operation.
