The station Remscheid -Lennep is after the Hauptbahnhof Remscheid is the most important railway station in Remscheid city. The station is located west of the old town Lenneper and belongs to the train station category 5

History

The then -independent city Lennep received in 1868 for the first time following a rail link. For a connection of industrial and commercial rich district Lennep (iron and steel goods, cloth, etc. ) to Cologne sat down in 1844 a committee with personalities from Barmen and the circle Lennep one. Next was a line Barmen - Lennep - Cologne planned by the Dhünntal, asked the Chamber of Commerce in Lennep in June 1858 to the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Public Works in Berlin to a branch line of Rittershausen about Lennep to Remscheid, which then also approved and 1868 in operation was taken. The desire for a continuation towards Cologne persisted, however. Instead of the Dhünn Thal was this from 1876 to Wermelskirchen and reached in October 1881 Burscheid Opladen. :6 -20

Lennep soon possessed with the railway line Wuppertal- Barmen- Opladen, the railway line to Remscheid, the Wuppertal train and indirectly Wipper Switchback more railways than its neighboring towns and developed on the basis of which is fast becoming a hub for rail transport of the Bergische Land. At the station, for this reason from 1893 to 1960 was its own operating factory.

1929, the city was incorporated into Remscheid Lennep. The station was renamed but only on 18 May 1952 in Remscheid- Lennep Bahnhof Lennep Bahnhof: 36f and was always more important than the Remscheid Central Station. This changed, however, with the closure of the railway in Wuppertal in 1956 and Wipper Valley Railway in 1986. Finally, in 1995 came the task of freight between Remscheid -Lennep and Wipperfuerth.

Conversion 2009/2010

From early 2009 to June 2010, the station was rebuilt. Two outer platforms, which are connected by an underpass created. In addition, the old station building was partly restored to new, and unused tracks were dismantled.

Traffic

From 1986 served only by regional train RB 47 ( The Müngstener ) the districts of Remscheid Lennep district. As of 15 December 2013, this regional train was S 7 converted to the S -Bahn line and integrated into the network of S- Bahn Rhein -Ruhr. Stadtwerke Remscheid drive in cooperation of other transport companies to the train station Remscheid -Lennep.

Since its inauguration on April 22, 2012 starts right at Lennep Train a combined foot and bicycle path along the former railway route to Opladen.
