René Didi Duprat

René " Didi " Duprat ( born October 12, 1926 in Paris, † 8 August 1996 ) was a French guitarist of Gypsy jazz and musette.

Life and work

Duprat learned as a child, mandolin and banjo, before the guitar the guitar his main instrument was under the influence of Django Reinhardt's music. Although no Manouche, he worked from the 1930s and 1940s as a guitarist in the musette and the swing scene. At age 16, he played in the orchestra Michel Warlop. In 1943 he accompanied Gus Viseur and Tony Murena, originated with the first recordings. After the war he took up with Jo Privat. He was until 1952 a member of the orchestra of Louis Ferrari. In 1958 he replaced Henri Crolla as a touring companion of the singer Yves Montand, which made him nationally known. Thus he worked until the mid-1970s with artists such as Dalida, Juliette Greco and Marlene Dietrich. Didi Duprat also played with the brothers Baro and Matelo Ferret. In the early 1990s emerged last recordings with Jo Rossi, Marc Perrone, Louis Corchia, Marcel Azzola, Armand Lassagne and Francis Varis, before he fell ill and had to end his career.
