Renée and Renato

Renée and Renato was a British- Italian singing duo. It was founded in the early 1980s by the tenor Renato Pagliari and club singer Hilary Lester. With the single Save Your Love the two occupied at Christmas 1982 # 1 on the UK Singles Chart.

Career

Pagliari ( born June 28, 1940 † 29 July 2009) was born in Rome. In his home, he appeared as a tenor in Kaberett. After moving to the UK he took in 1975 at the talent show New Faces of British television channel ITV in part. With his performance, he attracted the attention of songwriter Johnny Edward up. Together with the club singer Hilary Lester, whom he had met at the Winter Gardens in Margate ( Kent), which written by Edwards and his wife Sue ballad Save Your Love was recorded. The uptake increased in October 1982 in the UK charts and reached just before Christmas number 1, on which they remained for four weeks. Overall, the single has sold more than half a million times. Lester was in the associated video replaced by a model.

With the follow-up single Just One More Kiss both this success could not be repeated. Their third single, Jesus Loves Us All missed the charts. Then both went their separate ways.

Lester had already joined at the time of this success a band and later withdrew into private life. Pagliari occasionally performed as a singer in his son's restaurant in Tamworth ( Staffordshire). In the comedy show Little and Large, he was seen in a guest appearance and later sang the background music of commercials for the ice-cream Cornetto one. He died in July 2009 at the age of 69 after complications in the surgical treatment of a brain tumor at the Good Hope Hospital, Sutton Coldfield.
