Renren

Renren ( Chinese:人人 网; Pinyin: Rénrénwǎng, network for all ') is a Chinese social networking site. Renren is active only in China and benefited from the blocking Facebooks by the Chinese authorities. It has been estimated in February 2011, some 160 million members and rivals the Chinese Internet company Baidu and Tencent in China's Internet advertising market.

History

Renren goes on in December 2005 by Wang Xing (王兴), Wang Huiwen (王慧文), Lai Binqiang (赖斌强) and Yang Tang (唐 阳), founded Xiaonei (校内 网, xiàonèiwǎng = campus network ) back.

In October 2006, Xiaonei.com was bought by Chinese Internet Consortium Oak Pacific Interactive ( OPI), which operated a similar network called 5Q. Xiaonei became the most popular SMS service for Chinese students and operating a service with the Chinese name Renrenzhuomian (人人 桌面, Renren zhuōmiàn = Desktop for all ), which is more popular than Facebook chat.

In August 2009 Xiaonei changed to Renren his name.

Today Renren is majority-owned Chinese Internet group Oak Pacific Interactive. On 4 May 2011, the IPO on the New York Stock Exchange took place; while the company redeemed 743 million U.S. dollars.
