Repsold (crater)

108.65

Repsold is an impact crater on the far western edge of the lunar front side, therefore, is sometimes invisible due to the libration and if visible from the Earth, then highly distorted. It lies on the western edge of Oceanus Procellarum, southeast of the crater Volta and east of Galvani. The western edge is covered by the secondary craters Repsold G.

The crater floor is reasonably flat, apart from a system of lunar grooves, the Rimae Repsold. The most prominent of these grooves runs through the crater from the northeast to the southwest, runs through Repsold G and ends in the crater Galvani. With his fault system Repsold belongs to the type of floor - fractured crater (Class V).

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the German inventor Johann Georg Repsold.
