Volta (crater)

128.14

Volta is an impact crater on the far western edge of the lunar front side, therefore, is sometimes invisible due to the libration and if visible from the Earth, then highly distorted. It is located west of Oceanus Procellarum, north of Galvani and northwest of Repsold. The western edge is partially covered by the smaller crater Regnault and touches the edge of Stokes. The rim is relatively heavily eroded.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1964 after the Italian physicist Alessandro Volta.
