Requiem (Bruckner)

The Requiem in D Minor (WAB 39) Anton Bruckner's setting of the Latin Requiem text, written in the years 1848 and 1849. It is his first major composition and at the same time his first score with orchestra. Impetus for the composition was the death of his mentor Franz Seiler, who was Secretary in the Abbey of St. Florian near Linz, and the work is dedicated. Bruckner revised the Requiem twice, in 1854 and 1894.

The work, which 25 -year-old organist composed Bruckner in St. Florian, still stands in the tradition of Viennese classicism; as well as the classical requiem settings of Mozart, Kraus and Cherubini Bruckner's Requiem in D minor, but changes in the final, " Lux Perpetua " to D major.
