Resolution is the seventh studio album by the American metal band Lamb of God. It was released on January 20, 2012 via Roadrunner Records.

Formation

Drummer Chris Adler announced in December 2010 that the band will work with producer Josh Wilburg again with their new album. In spring 2011, the musicians worked on the collected ideas and took some demos. At the same time the song hit the Wall for the computer game Iron Man 2 was released. The song was not used for the album.

On 22 June 2011, the shooting began. A total of 17 songs were recorded, 14 of which were used on the regular version of the album. A song was recorded only instrumental. For the first time the band worked with an orchestra and the opera singer Amanda Munton, which can be heard in the song King Me.

For the chorus of singer Randy Blythe translated the Latin text of the Requiem in D minor by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart into English. The recordings took place in New York City and Fort Hayward. Produced and mixed by Josh Wilbur was resolution.

Background

The album title comes from a line of text resolution of the song ruin of the album As the Palaces Burn. According to vocalist Randy Blythe of title reflecting the whole album, because the word resolution has several meanings.

"Of course, once a solution is an end, but also actions are being counted, which bring one closer to a supposed solution. [ ... ] The album revolves around all these things; that the title fits so, is a happy coincidence. "

The lyrics of the album refer according to Mark Morton on personal experiences of the band members and refer to things, things that have experienced for themselves and as a group musicians. The texts of Resolution therefore represent a contrast to those of the previous album, since Wrath texts from other people acted. Ghost Walking is, for instance, that Morton must take in many situations in which he would correct decisions making false hit. In an interview he described this character as a self-destructive train of him.

In the song The Number Six is about envy and resentment in today's society. In the lyrics of the song Randy Blythe called Leviathan the demons of envy, which is one of the seven deadly sins. Heiko Eschenbach from the online magazine Metal.de designated resolution as an album that " ended all doubt about the importance and class of the band". The playing time of the album he described as " too long" and awarded eight out of ten. In the German magazine Metal Hammer resolution reached second place in the sound check. Petra Schurer gave the album in their review of six of seven points, as " the whole package ".

Resolution debuted at number three on the U.S. album charts. In the UK, the album reached number 19 in the German-speaking countries, the album reached place 37 ( Germany ), 28th place ( Austria ) or number 30 ( Switzerland ). The song Ghost Walking was nominated performance for the Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock / Metal category.
