Rethen (Leine) is a district of the city Laatzen in the Hanover region.

History

The name probably derives from Middle Low German ago and means "house at the reed ( thatch ) " or " reed home " ( " Ret " = reeds; " Hen " = home ).

Was mentioned in documents for the first time in 1250 as a branch Rethen Municipality of sliding things. The first chapel of the diocese of Hildesheim is busy for 1448.

1523 fell Rethen with the Office Koldingen to the Duchy Calenberg. 1592 a school was established in Rethen. The construction of the railway line Hannover -Kassel (commissioned 1853) brought a significant upturn, which as of March 22, 1899 by the inclusion of tram operation from Hannover to Hildesheim again reinforced. The modern means of transport then promoted several industrial operations, for example, in 1876 the sugar factory, which has long held national significance.

On March 1, 1974 Rethen (Leine) was incorporated into the city Laatzen.

Rethen has a primary school, three kindergartens ( Park, Sehlwiese and island), a market center, a retirement home, an S-Bahn station, and a large and a small commercial area.

In peripheral location on the Gallows Hill and at the end of Peine Road were until 2000 allotments. These have now been replaced by large new housing estates. Around the old village today dominate modern Vorstadtbauten.

For more than three centuries stands in the village of Rethen a church that was destroyed several times. The present church has existed since 1953, since 1960 it bears the name of St. Peter's Church.
