Reuben Robie

Reuben Robie ( born July 15, 1799 in Corinth, Orange County, Vermont, † January 21, 1872 in Bath, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1851 and 1853 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Reuben Robie attended the public schools of his home. In 1819 he came to Bath in New York State, where he worked in the trade from 1822. Between 1825 and 1830 he was employed as Town Clerk in the local administration. In the years 1831 and 1832, he served as mayor ( Town Supervisor). From 1837 to 1841 he was also postmaster there. Later he was in the years 1844-1847 eunuchs in Steuben County. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party.

In the congressional elections of 1850 Robie was in the 30th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of David Rumsey on March 4, 1851. Since he resigned in 1852 to further candidacy, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1853. This was marked by the events leading up to the Civil War. The question of slavery was at the heart of the conflict.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Reuben Robie was again involved in trade. He died on January 21, 1872 in Bath.
