Rheinburgenweg Trail

The Rheinburgenweg (formerly: Rhine Castles Trail ) is a long distance footpath on the left side of the Rhine in World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley from Bingen to Koblenz via Rolandsbogen in Remagen. Following a comprehensive review of the routing in 2010, the road has a total length of about 196 km. He is the counterpart of the Rhine trail that runs along the Rhine from Bonn to Wiesbaden.

The original version of Rheinburg path went back on plans before the opening of the Rhine sidewalk and was on both sides of the Rhine. The former right bank part of Bendorf -Sayn to Rudesheim was largely identical to the Rhine riser and was opened on 24 August 2004. In August 2006, the left-bank part of Koblenz is to Bingen.

The Rheinburgenweg was completely redesigned in 2010 according to the criteria of " quality path Walking in Germany ". He now leads up to about 196 km to over 20 palaces, castles, ruins, forts and many other attractions, such as the Geysir Andernach. He runs through the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley. He also offers many views on the right side of the Rhine, with its fortifications and other highlights such as the Lorelei.

Characteristics

The path allows the exploration of more than 3,000 years of history of military and protective construction on the Middle Rhine. It begins with prehistoric fortifications on Dicktberg at Brohl, on the Dommelberg near Koblenz, the predecessor of the festivals Ehrenbreitstein and fortifications on the Hühnerberg over St. Goar. Remains of the Roman Limes as the fort wall of Boppard or the well-preserved Roman road above Bacharach reflect the late Roman period. The diverse castle landscape, characterized by many reconstructions of the 19th and early 20th centuries, which are like Loreley Rock, Castle Sooneck and Burg Rheinstein testimonies of romance, is the main reference point of the path that the last ruins and never ruined castles Pfalz Castle and Mark Burg touched. The festivals Ehrenbreitstein in Koblenz and the Rhine rock festivals on St. Goar are available for the fortress of modern times. Along the way are also fully preserved medieval walled town of Rhens, Oberwesel and Bacharach.

In addition to the fortifications of Rheinburgenweg opens up the cultural landscape with its vineyards and partly almost Mediterranean-influenced habitats in the former vineyards.

Route

Although the Rheinburgenweg is designed less sporty than the Rhine trail, it leads to its scenic trails, often high on the Rhine heights, linksrheinisch also partly about alpine paths. In addition, he has in Boppard Hamm with the central Rhine - ferrata and Oberwesel with the Oelsbergsteig two very demanding via ferrata route as alternatives for experienced mountain hikers. The Rheinburgenweg, in contrast to the right bank of the Rhine trail through his leadership on the edge of the plateaus access to the best vantage points such as the Vierseenblick in Boppard, castle Rhine Rock, Loreleyblick Maria Ruh in urbary seven- virgins - view ( " Günderode house" ) Oberwesel among other things, and performs the most important places ( Bacharach, Oberwesel, St. Goar, Boppard ).

In contrast to the Rhine climbing the Rheinburgenweg has not created uniform. There are because of the local jurisdiction a very different attachment of the markings, which are often sparse and sometimes even hiding something. The routing is however predominantly sufficiently marked and, if necessary, etc. We can manage without a guide, map, books, GPS, a map very easy orientation.

Is optimal reachability and access to stations ( return journey, daily stages ). The car ferries Boppard, St. Goar -St. Goar, Kaub - Niederheimbach and Bingen- Rudesheim offer the option to switch from the Rhine to the riser Rheinburgenweg and vice versa.
