Rheita (crater)

70.81

Rheita is an impact crater in the southern lunar front side, to the west of the crater Furnerius and northeast of Metius. Southwest of Rheita runs the crater named after, about 200 km long moon valley Vallis Rheita in a northwesterly and southeasterly direction. The crater is moderately eroded, the interior is flat and has a central mountain on.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1935 after the German priest and astronomer Anton Maria de Schyrleus Rheita.
