Rhoditis

Roditi is the second most commonly grown white wine grape in Greece. It is often blended with the variety Savatiano to retsina. It means, among other things, Rhoditis, Roidites, Rogdites or Alepou and is particularly grown in the Peloponnese.

From the Northeast Greek -growing region this grape variety native to the world-famous Retsina Malamatina.

The grapes of this variety ripen despite the warm climate that requires sensitive to fungal diseases variety, late. But you still retain sufficient acid, which is rare in warm climates. She has a pronounced fruitiness, especially citrus fruits and almonds.

Ampelographic varietal characteristics

In the ampelography the habit is described as follows:

  • The shoot tip is open. It is spinnwebig hairy with very light reddish approach. The young leaves are hairy easy spinnwebig on the leaf surface and shine a light bronze color.
  • The large leaves ( see also the article sheet form) are mostly three-lobed (rarely five-lobed ) and medium strong sinuate. The petiole is U-shaped open to closed. The leaf margin is serrated blunt. The teeth are set moderately dilated in comparison of the varieties.
  • The cone - shaped to cylindrical bunch is medium to large in size and moderately dichtbeerig. The berries are medium in size and the color tends to be a weak rosé. The berries are not too thick- and juicy; the juice is colorless. The light flavor of the berry is very characteristic.

The vine cast out relatively late.

Prone is Roditi against powdery mildew and downy mildew. The income of the fertile varieties are satisfactory despite the high vulnerability and achieved even on moderately fertile soils 120 hectoliters / hectare. On fertile soils Roditi tends to coulure.

Roditi matures about 35 days after Chasselas and is thus regarded as late maturing.
