Ribotyping

Ribotyping (English portmanteau word for ribosomal typing) is in molecular biology, a method for the Erzeugnung a genetic fingerprint by restriction fragment length polymorphism.

Principle

By ribotyping characteristic restriction patterns of DNA of genes of the ribosomal RNA (rRNA) are generated. The isolated DNA is cut using a restriction enzyme, after agarose gel electrophoresis and Southern blot hybridization using probes made of parts of the genes of the 16S rRNA and 23S rRNA may be a characteristic pattern generated for the type and compared to samples of other species.
