Ricardo Blas, Jr.

Ricardo Blas Jr. (born 19 October 1986 Tamuning, Guam ) is a heavyweight judoka from Guam. With a body weight of over 210 kg, he is regarded as the most serious athlete who has ever participated in the Olympic Games.

Career

Blas ' eponymous father Ricardo Blas senior (born 1954 ) took over as judoka part in the Summer Olympic Games in 1988 and is currently President of the National Olympic Committee of Guam. Blas junior started at the instigation of his father at the age of five years, also with the judo sport. He represented the island for the first time at the Summer Olympic Games in 2008 and was Guam's flag bearer at the opening ceremony. With a body mass of 210.6 kg at a height of 183 cm he cared for attention as the heaviest athlete of the Games. He was defeated on 15 August 2008, however, already in the first round of the approximately 75 kilograms lighter Georgian Lasha Gujejiani, in the hope round, he was eliminated by the Americans Daniel McCormick. Both fights he did not lose because of physical inferiority, but by three cautions ( Shido ) due to passivity.

In the Summer Olympics 2012, he was again standard bearer for Guam; his fighting weight now was 218 kg. This time he succeeded, August 3, 2012 to win his opening fight against Facinet Keita from Guinea and into the knockout stages of the weight class to collect over 100 kg, where it defeated the Cubans Oscar Brayson by Ippon.
