Riccardo Rognoni

Riccardo Rognoni Taeggio (* before 1550, † before April 20, 1620 in Milan ) is an Italian composer, violinist and flautist.

Life and work

Riccardo Rognoni lived in Milan and is the first known member of a famous family of musicians of the Renaissance and early Baroque. He wrote one of the earliest known violin schools. He is credited with that he brought to the Lombard court the violin from street dance and instrument. Among his most famous students include his two sons, Francesco Rognoni and Giovanni Domenico Rognoni.

The family in 1605 by the art-loving king Sigismund III. Vasa of Poland, in whose service they were, ennobled and contributed since the nickname Taeggio

Filippo Picinelli (1604-1678) described him as an excellent string and wind instruments virtuoso.

Among his works are known today only his " Passagi " and a work from his Il primo libro della musica a due voci (Milan, 1598 ).
