Richard Hageman

Richard Hagemann ( born July 9, 1882 in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, † March 6, 1966 in Beverly Hills, California, United States) was a Dutch, later American concert pianist, conductor and film composer.

Life

Richard Hagemann was born into a musical family, the son of the conductor and musical director Moritz Leonhard Hagemann ( 1829-1900 ). He began his musical career as a concert pianist, and later conductor at the opera house of Amsterdam. In 1906 he moved to the United States of America. At the Metropolitan Opera of New York, he conducted the local orchestra and later several symphony orchestras. Since the late 1930s he worked as a film composer in Hollywood. His most famous works in the movie were the soundtracks to several Western classics by director John Ford, including collaborating in the soundtrack for Ringo, which was awarded the Oscar. More John Ford western with compositions by Hagemann were until the last man (1948 ), Footprints in the Sand (1948 ), She Wore (1949 ) and West of St. Louis ( 1950). In films like The fisherman of Louisiana and The Great Caruso, he is also seen on the side of Mario Lanza as actors in the major roles.
