Richard Madden

Richard Madden ( born 1986 in Elderslie ) is a Scottish actor. He achieved international fame through his role as Robb Stark in the fantasy series Game of Thrones.

Life

Madden is the son of a fireman and a school assistant and grew up in his native town of Elderslie. At the age of 11 he joined the Paisley Arts Centre the youth theater program in order to overcome his shyness. He was soon busy in a lead role as Sebastian in the television series Barmy Aunt Boomerang, which was aired in 6 episodes from 1999 to 2000. He studied from 2007 onwards at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama

During this time he played in the Franz Xaver Kroetz piece Mensch Meier (English: Tom Fool ) and was discovered by a team of the Globe Theatre. There he played in the final semester of his theater studies Romeo in a production of Romeo and Juliet at numerous open- air stages in the summer. In 2009 he received the lead role as Dean McKenzie in the BBC series Hope Springs. In 2010 he played Ripley in the movie Chatroom. In 2011, he was seen among others in the six-part Channel 4 series Sirens as Ashley Green Wick.

From 2011 to 2013 he had three seasons on the lead role of Robb Stark in the HBO series Game of Thrones, the film adaptation of the fantasy saga A Song of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin. In 2012 he played in the two-part miniseries Birdsong after a world war novel by Sebastian Faulks.
