Richard Onslow, 3rd Baron Onslow

Richard Onslow, 3rd Baron Onslow, KB ( 1713 * London, † October 8, 1776 ) was an English nobleman and politician.

Life

Family and Title

Onslow was born as the only child of the politician Thomas Onslow and his wife Elizabeth Knight. His maternal grandfather was a Jamaican merchant. On May 16, 1741, he married Mary Ellwill, the daughter of Edmund Ellwill, 3rd Baronet of Exeter. The couple remained childless. The hereditary title of Baron Onslow of Onslow, he was awarded in 1740. Since there is no direct male descendant was present at his death, the title passed to his cousin George. After his death, Onslow was buried in Merrow.

Career

His education was Onslow 1725-1728 at Eton College. On August 22, In 1730 he enrolled at Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge University. His political career began in 1734 as MP for the constituency of Guildford. He held until his father's death in 1740 this seat. This he followed to the Lord Lieutenant of Surrey. In the same year he was also appointed High Steward of Guildford, a position which he held until his death. In 1752 he was elevated to Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath.
