Richard Sheldon

Richard Sheldon ( born July 9, 1878 in Rutland, Vermont, † January 23, 1935 in New York City ) was an American track and field athlete.

At the Olympic Games in Paris in 1900 Richard Sheldon won the shot put with 14.10 m and 1.25 m ahead of his compatriot Josiah McCracken. The defending champion Robert Garrett was third with 12.35 m. On the same day, 15 July, the competition was held in the discus throw. It won the Hungarian Rudolf Bauer with 36.04 m in front of the Bohemia František Janda -Suk with 35,25 m and 34,60 m with Richard Sheldon. The distance between the first and third in the shot put was therefore greater than in the discus throw, so what in the Olympic history was only rarely.

After graduating from Yale University Sheldon worked for the car company Cadillac.
