Richardis

Richardis or Richgard (is) (c. 840; † September 18th at 900 in Andlau) was the wife of Emperor Charles III.

The daughter of Count Erchanger from the family of Ahalolfinger married 862 Charles III. and was crowned Roman empress with him 881. 887 it was (apparently for political reasons ) accused of adultery with Chancellor Liutward of Vercelli and then withdrew to the abbey founded by her 880 Andlau back to where she was buried after her death. She was 877-893 abbess at the convent Säckingen and 878-893 also Abbess of women Münster Abbey in Zurich.

Richardis is venerated in the Catholic Church as a saint. Your feast day is September 18.
