Riki Flutey

Riki Flutey John ( born February 10, 1980 in Featherston, New Zealand ) is an English rugby union player who plays on the positions of the inner three-quarters and connectors. He is active for the English national team and the English club London Wasps. Before he first ran aground in 2008 for England, he was a New Zealand citizen and played for the selection of the New Zealand Māori.

Career

Flutey began with four years at the rugby. In his youth he was still playing as scrum half and won, among others, the 1999 U19 World Cup with the New Zealand selection. Only with the change to the Wellington Lions, he was employed on the connector position. In 2002 he ran for the first time in a multinational tournament Super 12 for the Hurricanes on, but he could in his time there not prevail in the long term and moved to England in 2005.

After two seasons with the London Irish, he moved to city rivals London Wasps. He left this club at the end of the 2008/09 season and moved to France for CA Brive. At the beginning of the 2010/11 season he returned to the Wasps.

Flutey was first time in 2008 for the English national team against the Pacific Islanders, and since then is a regular formation of the squad. With the Six Nations 2009 he put four attempts and was alongside Brian O'Driscoll topscorer of the tournament. He was consequently nominated for the tour of the British and Irish Lions to South Africa and became the first player who played for and against the Lions.

Flutey has five siblings, his older brother Mano is also rugby players and has gone through the youth teams in New Zealand.
