Hurricanes (rugby union)
(Formerly called Wellington Hurricanes ) The Hurricanes are a rugby union team from Wellington, New Zealand. The team plays in the international Super 14 League. It represents the regional federations East Coast RFU RFU Poverty Bay, Hawke 's Bay RU, Horowhenua - Kapiti RFU, RU Manawatu, Taranaki RFU, Wairarapa Bush RFU, Wanganui and Wellington RFU RFU. The catchment area of the franchise thus comprises the southern part of the North Island.
Home games are played in the Westpac Stadium (until 1998 in Athletic Park ). The team colors are yellow and black. The mascot is called Captain Hurricane. Occasionally home games are also held in other cities, mostly in New Plymouth at Yarrow Stadium.
The most successful season was 2006, when the Hurricanes had to admit defeat to the Crusaders until the endgame. In addition, they reached the semi-finals four times.
