Rinca

Rinca [ rint͡ʃa ] is one of the Lesser Sunda Islands in Indonesia.

The island with an area of ​​196 km ² well situated just west of Flores and belongs to the province of Nusa Tenggara.

Western neighbor islands are the small Padar and Komodo, in the north a myriad of small islands in front. To the south extends the Sumbastraße and the Savu Sea with the island of Sumba, in the north of the Floressee.

Rinca is part of the Komodo National Park and famous for komodo dragons, but is populated by many other species such as wild pigs, buffalos and many birds. Day-trippers come mostly from Labuan Bajo on Flores by boat.

Rinca is 25 kilometers long and in the south up to 12 km wide in the north but only up to 5 km. Between the northern and the southern part is a two -kilometer-wide bottleneck. The south of the island is dominated by the highest elevation, Doro Ora, formerly Hagedissen Mountain, 667 meters high.

Formerly the island name Rintja was written.
