Rising (Rainbow album)

Occupation

Rising, sometimes called Rainbow Rising, is the second studio album by the band Rainbow. The album was released on 17 May 1976 on Polydor Records and Oyster Records (USA). It is considered a classic of Heavy Metal and Heavy Rocks, and as " one of the major plates of hard rock. "

History

The album was recorded in February 1976 in Musicland Studios in Munich with producer Martin Birch. Ritchie Blackmore kept the line-up of the previous album only singer Ronnie James Dio. New drummer Cozy Powell were added, bassist Jimmy Bain and keyboardist Tony Carey. The band was still ongoing in the U.S. at this time as Blackmore's Rainbow. In the first issue of the magazine Kerrang! Rising was chosen for all time number-one album.

Style

Although the two main characters, Blackmore and Dio were the same as for the previous album, Ritchie Blackmore 's Rainbow, has been connected to the Rising is a clear change of style. In particular, the similarity to previous band Dios elf was now negligible.

Striking in comparison to the previous album is the first significant increase in hardness, which was also the star drummer Cozy Powell, to date, already known by solo projects and in particular the work with Jeff Beck, had no small share. While the predecessor Gary Driscoll strong percussive elements, such as in particular the cowbell was inclined, with Powell dominated the double bass in combination with hard snare, which particularly reflects the intro of Stargazer. From the keyboard by default come organ and synthesizer sounds while had been a formative element in the debut album of the band and at the plates of eleven more classical instruments such as harpsichord and piano.

Striking - again especially when compared to the previous albums - also the length of the pieces of the second page. It consists of only two, but each over eight minutes long titles. Here in the Black the closing piece A Light was the first of the following diverse rainbow pieces by sprawling solo duels between guitar and keyboards - as with Deep Purple between Blackmore and Jon Lord - stand out. Later in the genre were especially Gates of Babylon, Eyes of the World, Lost in Holywood, Spot Light Kid and Death Alley Driver. This also attack the tradition of old Deep Purple pieces in this coinage such as Highway Star or Burn, to name only the two most famous, on. However standing in the solo parts of A Light in the Black and many followers of Rainbow slightly less classical bonds in the foreground. Instead, diving, also in followers, often striking oriental quotes on. The latter also applies significantly to the entire piece Stargazer.
