Burn (Deep Purple song)

February 1974

Burn (English for: " Burn " ) is a song by British rock band Deep Purple. The fast, powerful and riffbetonte rock song was released in 1974 as the first song on the same album Burn. An abridged version appeared in the United States and Japan as a single.

Background

The song merges Deep Purple riffbetonten Hard Rock style and classical influences that manifest themselves in Jon Lord's organ solos. The reef used for this purpose Burn is a some nuances enhanced version of the classic Smoke on the Water. Guitarist Ritchie Blackmore wanted for his musical compositions by new singer David Coverdale lyrics about " knight in shining armor, demonology and mythological heroes." Coverdale had so few problems; the eighth version of the text fit this then, well, the song was not as originally "Take Me Down the Road ", but just burn. Burn This can be also one of the first for the, popular in the 1980s, fantasy skirt.

Live performances

Burn succeeds the previous Konzertopeners Highway Star. One of his first performances was used in Deep Purple California Jam on 6 April 1974. Nearly two years, until her last concert in March 1976 and the subsequent breakup of the band, Burn was as opening track of their live concerts Burn.

When Deep Purple in 1984 reunited the entire song material of the Coverdale era was banned from the live set of the group. Only in a short time with Deep Purple vocalist Joe Lynn Turner 1989-1991 Burn was reintroduced as an opener in the live program. According to Ritchie Blackmore's exit in Deep Purple and the subsequent reunion of Rainbow Burn has also been adopted in the local live entertainment. By David Coverdale's band Whitesnake the song is still performed today.
