Black Night

June 1970

Black Night (English for " Black Night ") is a riffbetonter Hard Rock song by British band Deep Purple. Formation

As Deep Purple in early 1970 in the board office of the responsible local Harvest presented their new album In Rock, the group was asked after listening to In Rock after a single release. Deep Purple had not originally intended to produce a single, because the then prevailing progressive oriented musical opinion refused to produce singles or couple out from the album. But the pressure of the EMI towards which had originally founded as an underground label Harvest, the De Lana Lea Studio was rented for importing a single.

According to bassist Roger Glover played to the creation of the song as follows:

"We started two clock in the afternoon to fiddle and look for a reef, which we did not found. At eight we ran away into a pub, and have let the corner we fill up. Ritchie [ Blackmore ] and I have let the others sit there, are back in the studio, he took his guitar and just played what. To me it sounded quite good. Ritchie said it was stolen from Ricky Nelson's ' Summertime ', so I said, ' We can then unfortunately do not take ' He asked. , Why? Have you ever heard of ' I: . ' No '? So he said,' Prima ' "!

After Ian Gillan's return from the pub to put it apart and Roger Glover with the work of a mating song text. The new song had a chorus that was similar to Hush. The title Blacknight they took over from an older piece by Arthur Alexander. After three hours of working the Black -night recording was finished.

Live performances

The song held after its release on June 5, 1970 entry into the concert program of the group. Mostly, he was, like later Fireball, played as an encore.
