Rita Donaghy, Baroness Donaghy

Rita Margaret Donaghy, Baroness Donaghy CBE, FRSA ( born October 9, 1944) is a British university employees, trade unionist and life peer, sitting for the Labour Party in the House of Lords.

She studied at the University of Durham and then worked at the Institute of Education, University of London, as an administrative assistant and later in the Secretariat of the student administration. She was appointed active in the union NALGO, was established in 1973 in the national leadership circle and was its President in 1989 / 90th It belonged in 1989 to the Council of the Union Congress as a representative of the NALGO, the 1993 UNISON merged and was President of the TUC in 2000.

In October 2000, they gave up their union posts and was chairman of the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service, where she remained until 2007. From 2001 to 2007 she also worked for the Committee on Standards in Public Life ( Nolan Committee), as the successor of Sir Alistair Graham.

She was a member of the Low Pay Commission and the Employment Tribunal Task Force and Chairman of the TUC Disabilities Forum. 2009 Donaghy was asked to take over the chairmanship of an examination for occupational accidents in the construction industry. The investigation report was released in 2010 and contained a number of recommendations for improving safety at work.

Honors

Donaghy was in 1998 awarded the OBE for her commitment to the industrial relations and in 2005 the CBE for your commitment to employee questions.

The Open University awarded her an honorary doctorate in 2003. In 2003 she became a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and in 2004 the Royal Society of Arts ( FRSA ).

On 26 June 2010, she was raised as Baroness Donaghy for Life Peer.
