River Fiddich

Middle reaches of the Fiddich

The Fiddich ( Scottish Gaelic Fiodhach or Abhainn Fhiodhaich ) is a river in the Scottish unitary authority Moray. It rises in a sparsely populated region on the southern slope of Hill Corryhabbie about ten kilometers southwest of Dufftown. From there, it flows 17 km in a north-easterly direction, and then describes a wide loop to reach the first village after three kilometers to the west of Dufftown. From Dufftown of Fiddich flows to the northwest. In Craigellachie it opens after a total of 32 km in the Spey. Shortly before the mouth spans the A95 him. On his run he overcomes a difference in altitude of about 580 m. He takes on numerous small streams. However, the only significant tributary is the Dullan Water, which opens at Dufftown. The headwaters of the Fiddich leads through Glen Fiddich, after the Glenfiddich distillery is named. This therefore excludes the water needed for mashing from the Fiddich.
