River Runs Red is the debut album by American alternative metal band Life of Agony. The album was released on 1 October 1993 on Roadrunner Records.

Formation

Between the band's formation in 1989 and the release of their debut album, the band played a number of demos, which already contained several songs used on River Runs Red. The album was recorded in the system Two Studios in Brooklyn, New York. River Runs Red was produced by the Type -O- Negative keyboardist Josh Silver. All lyrics and music written by bassist Alan Robert.

River Runs Red is considered a concept album about the last week of life of a young man of about his problems at the end of the album commits suicide overwhelmed. The concept was the brainchild of Alan Robert and Josh Silver. Both wanted as on the Pink Floyd album The Wall to tell a story that holds together the whole album content.

The story is told in the titles "Monday ", "Thursday " and " Friday". The protagonist is used in all three titles home and yelled at by his mother. The mother is played by drummer Sal Abruscato. His voice was distorted in the basement of the studio with a harmonizer. The young man leaves to go to his room and listens to the answering machine. Peter Kubaschk by the online magazine Powermetal.de designated River Runs Red as "a carefree exclamation mark", which means " the ground for today's emocore recycled". Kubaschk designated Keith Caputo emotional vocals as the reason that makes this album " something special ". Jason Anderson of Allmusic called River Runs Red "one of the best debut album of the Metals of the early 1990s ". The only chart entry was posted in Germany River Runs Red, where the album reached number 71 on the album charts.
