Rob Krier

Rob Krier ( born June 10, 1938 in Grevenmacher, Luxembourg ) is a sculptor, architect and city planner.

Rob Krier, born on 10 June 1938 in Grevenmacher, Luxembourg, brother of Leon Krier, worked after studying architecture in Munich ( 1959-1964 ) at OM Ungers and Frei Otto. After teaching in Stuttgart and Lausanne, he was from 1976 to 1998 professor at the Vienna University of Technology in 1986 and a visiting professor at Yale University, New Haven, USA.

Rob Krier has been internationally known for his 1975 paper published " urban space ", in which he - dealing with the urban reconstruction of destroyed urban structures and the reintroduction of traditional spatial compositions in the urban planning of the postwar period - as in his later practice. Building on historical models and archetypal cities model he developed typologies of streets and squares spaces.

Examples of his early urban planning activity are realized in Berlin as part of the IBA block edge cultivations at the Knight Street (1977-1980) and the town villas on the Rauchstraße ( 1980) and the apartment complex in Breitenfurterstraße in Vienna ( 1981-1987 ).
