Rob Swope

George Robert " Rob" Swope ( born December 2, 1926 in Washington, DC; † January 9, 1967 ) was an American jazz trombonist.

Bob Swope was the younger brother of the trombonist Earl Swope, with whom he also played. He played with Buddy Rich in 1947 ( where his brother had recently ) and 1948/49, with Chubby Jackson. In 1947, he took with Jerry on the forest. 1949 to 1950 he was in the big band of Gene Krupa and 1950/51 at Elliot Lawrence. After that he played in a trio own in Washington DC and in 1953 a member of compiled for some concerts backing band ( The Orchestra ) at the Night Club Kavakos, the Charlie Parker (22 February 1953 with borrowed saxophone as part of The Washington Concerts published by Blue Note 2001), Bud Powell (April 5, 1953, with Charles Mingus, published as Inner Fire) and 1955 Dizzy Gillespie (13 March 1955, when one night appeared in Washington) accompanied in the second half of the 1950s he was for a time in New York City and played with Larry Sonn, Boyd Raeburn, Claude Thornhill, Jimmy Dorsey and Louie Bellson. In the 1960s, he played again in Washington DC often with their own bands.

Besides the aforementioned recordings with Parker, Gillespie and Powell, he took with Buddy Rich and Paul Quinichette ( The Kid from Denver 1959), Bill Potts ( Jazz Soul of Porgy and Bess 1959), Stan Getz ( Bop recordings in the 1940s ) on. Tom Lord lists 21 recording sessions from 1947 to 1959 ( under Bob Swope ).
