Robert's son Peter was doing the castle of Beaumont- le -Roger without a fight, which transferred the king out in October 1203 to one of his henchmen. The county of Meulan was incorporated into the French royal domain. While this was happening, Robert was entrusted himself on behalf of John with the defense of Rouen. But after the French king had the supposedly impregnable castle of Château -Gaillard quickly conquered, Robert gave up the struggle and acted on June 1, 1204, King Philip II, the capitulation of Rouen, which he handed out this few days.
