Robert Firth (footballer)

Robert Edwin Firth ( born February 20, 1887 in Birmingham, † unknown ) was an English football player and coach

Career

As a player

Firth played at the beginning of his career in 1909 for Birmingham City. In the 1909/10 season, he played nine games in the Football League Second Division and FA Cup. His first league goal he scored on 10 December 1910 against Lincoln City. 1911 Firth left the St. Andrew's and joined the first Wellington Town, then Nottingham Forest in before he was taken in 1921 by Port Vale under contract. In the season 1921/22, he scored five goals for the second division in 39 matches and won with his team the North Staffordshire Infirmary Cup. At the end of the season he left the club and played from then on for Southend United

As a coach

In 1930, Firth was coach of Spanish side Racing Santander and missed with the association of Cantabria at the end of the season 1930/31 than in second only on goal difference to win the championship. In the season 1931/32 the team finished fourth. Firth then moved to the capital club Madrid FC and led it in the season 1932/33, immediately to the Spanish league title and in the cup final, but which went with 1:2 against the trained by the Englishman Fred Pentland Athletic Bilbao lost. The following game year 1933/34, Madrid finished in second place. Then Firth left the club with which he had also won in 1933 and 1934, the Campeonato Centro.
