Robert Freitag

Robert Freitag (* April 7, 1916 in Vienna, † July 8th, 2010 in Munich, actually Robert Peter Freytag ) was an Austrian -Swiss theater and film actor and director.

Life

Robert Freitag was born as the son of Swiss opera singer Otto Friday. He received his acting training at the Reinhardt Seminar in Vienna. During the period of National Socialism, he went to Switzerland, where he worked as an actor at the Schauspielhaus in Zurich in 1941. In 1945 he married the German actress Maria Becker, who had studied acting in Vienna and was engaged at the same house since 1938, the theater as emigrants experienced a climax during the Second World War. The emigrant Becker gained Swiss citizenship by marrying Friday.

From 1949 on Friday took part in the Salzburg Festival. Later he played among others at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus and the intimate theater in Hamburg. With his then-wife, Maria Becker, and the German theater actor Will Quadflieg founded Friday, 1956 in Zurich, the touring theater, the troupe Zurich (also Zürcher acting troupe ), in which he partly directed and in which he on numerous tours throughout the German-speaking and in the United States occurred.

Friday was married to his second wife since 1966 with the German actress Maria Sebaldt, with whom he lived in Grünwald near Munich. The marriage produced a daughter.

His tomb is located in the forest cemetery Grünwald.
