Robert Gambill

Robert Gambill ( born March 31, 1955 in Indianapolis, USA) is an opera singer ( heroic tenor ).

Biography

1973 Robert Gambill first began at Purdue University, West Lafayette, Indiana, to study mathematics and came in 1976 as an exchange student at the University of Hamburg. There he studied German as well as singing at the Academy of Music and Theatre in Hamburg with Prof. Hans Kagel. Even as a 25 - year-old he made ​​his debut at La Scala in the title role of " Michael" in Karlheinz Stockhausen's world premiere Thursday of light directed by Luca Ronconi.

From 1984 to 1987 he sang in the ensemble of the Zurich Opera House, the lyrical bel canto specialist and the great Mozart roles. His repertoire included Don Ottavio in Don Giovanni, Tamino in The Magic Flute, as well as Fenton in The Merry Wives of Windsor, or that Count Almaviva in The Barber of Seville. In 1987 he celebrated his international breakthrough in Rossini's L' Italiana in Algeri in the Zurich production by Michael Hampe.
