Robert Kilpatrick, Baron Kilpatrick of Kincraig

Robert Kilpatrick, Kilpatrick of Kincraig Baron, CBE, FRSE ( born July 29, 1926) is a British politician and life peer.

Life and career

Kilpatrick was born on 29 July 1926, attended Buckhaven High School.

Kilpatrick was 1951-1954 medical registrar. From 1955 to 1956 he was a lecturer ( Lecturer ) at the University of Sheffield. From 1966 to 1975 he was a professor of clinical pharmacology and therapeutics, as well as Dean of the Faculty of Medicine in 1970 to 1973.

At the University of Leicester, he was from 1975 to 1989 also dean of the medical faculty. From 1975 to 1983 he was also Professor and Head, Division of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics and from 1984 to 1989 professor of medicine. Kilpatrick was 1989-1995 President of the General Medical Council (GMC ), where he had been from 1972 to 1976 and since 1979 a member. From 1997 to 1998 he was president of the British Medical Association ( BMA). At Sheffield University, he was also Chairman ( Chairman ) of the Society of Endocrinology from 1975 to 1978 and of the Advisory Committee on Pesticides 1975-1987.

In recent years, he suffered from tuberculosis, and was one of the first patients who were treated with the antibiotic streptomycin. He is patron ( patron ) of the charity organization TB Alert.

Membership in the House of Lords

Kilpatrick was appointed Life peer as Baron Kilpatrick of Kincraig of Dysart in the District of Kirkcaldy on 16 February 1996. In the House of Lords he sits as a cross Bencher. His inaugural address was delivered on 13 March 1996. His second and already last speech was made on 4 March 1999 Health Bill.

His presence was from the beginning in the low range and kept from the session 2001/2002 in the low single digits. Most recently, he was present in a single day of the session 2005/2006. Since 25 June 2010, he is on leave of absence granted by the House of Lords Leave of Absence.

Honors

Kilpatrick has been awarded numerous honorary doctorates. In 1987 he received the title of Hon DUniv the University of Edinburgh. He was ( Hon LLD) from the University of Dundee honored with a Doctor of Law in 1992. The University of Hull and the University of Leicester recorded him in 1994 each with a Doctor of Science from. In 1995 he was ( Hon LLD) from the University of Sheffield honored with an honorary doctorate Doctor of Law. In 1960 he became a member of the Physiological Society. In 1994 he became an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists. It was founded in 1995 an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in Dublin. He was an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 1996.

Kilpatrick 1963 Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh in 1975 and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. He was also in 1991 Felllow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1998 and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

He is a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.
