Robert Lindsay, 29th Earl of Crawford

Robert Alexander Lindsay, 29th Earl of Crawford and 12th Earl of Balcarres, KT, GCVO, PC ( born March 5, 1927) is a British politician and member of the Conservative Party. He is the senior first Earl of Scotland and hereditary chief of the Clan Lindsay.

Stations

Lindsay is the elder son of David Lindsay, 28th Earl of Crawford and Balcarres and 11th Earl of his wife Constance. He attended Eton College and then studied at Trinity College, University of Cambridge. Since 1940, when his father inherited the earldom, he led the courtesy title of Lord Balniel. From 1945 to 1949 he served in the Grenadier Guards.

Lindsay was from 1955 to February 1974 for the constituency of Hertford and February to October 1974 for the constituency of Welwyn Hatfield and Member of Parliament in the House of Commons. In 1975, he was raised by his many years of activity Parliament as Baron Balniel, of Pitcorthie in the county of Fife for Life Peer. In December of the same year he inherited when his father died its title.

From 1975 to 1988 Lindsay worked as a director at the National Westminster Bank.
