Robert Manne

Robert Manne ( born October 31, 1947) is an Australian political scientist and professor emeritus at La Trobe University in Melbourne. He is regarded as one of the leading intellectuals of Australia.

Life and work

Political scientist

For man's research interests include Eastern and Central European politics, the Cold War and the History Wars. He is the editor of the anthology Whitewash: On Keith Windschuttle 's Fabrication of Aboriginal History, in which scientists and professors against Keith Windschuttles argue theses on the history of Australian Aborigines. Man is also active in the field of media research. In his essay Bad News: Murdoch 's Australian and the Shaping of the Nation, he critically analyzes the reporting and public influence of the conservative Murdoch, The Australian. Man whose parents were Jewish refugees from Europe has, in addition, also done research on the topics of anti-Semitism and the Holocaust. He is the author or editor of 20 books in total.

For his books and essays husband received numerous awards. He is a Fellow of the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia.

Editor and columnist

Man was from 1990 to 1997 editor of Quadrant and 2006-2011 Chairman of the Editorial Board of the magazine The Monthly, for which he also writes a regular contributor.

In a survey by the Sydney Morning Herald Robert Manne has been elected as the leading intellectuals of Australia 2005.
