Robert Pearce (wrestler)

Robert " Bobby" Edward Pearce (* February 29, 1908 in Wyaconda, Maryland; † 15 March 1996) was an American wrestler and Olympic champion.

Career

Bobby Pearce began at the high school in Cushing, Oklahoma, with the rings. His coach was there Matt Berg, who formed him an outstanding freestyle wrestler. In 1928 he participated in the U.S. Olympic excretion and came bantamweight to 3rd place. He then moved to the Oklahoma State University, where his coach was Edward C. Gallagher.

1930 and 1931 he was master of the American Amateur Athletic Union bantamweight and 1931 and American University Master (NCAA College Champion ). In 1932 he succeeded in qualifying for the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. There he won with four safe point wins the gold medal, which he inter alia victories over the top European Ringer Aatos Jaskari from Finland and Odon Zombori celebrated from Hungary. Such victories were all the more remarkable, as the U.S. Ringer launched exclusively in competitions of American universities. There were no world championships and no Pan-American Championships, where they can gain international experience.

From 1933 to 1937 Bobby Pearce was professional wrestler and worked beside and beyond. Than coaches at high schools and universities For his contributions to the sport wrestler he was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1981.
